Read Time:1 Minute, 50 Second

After nearly a decade of service, Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Chancellor Francisco C. Rodriguez has announced that he will be stepping down this fall. Rodriguez has served as chancellor since 2014, overseeing nine colleges and over 100,000 students within the district.

During his time as chancellor, Rodriguez made significant strides in improving student success and access to education. He implemented initiatives aimed at increasing graduation rates, improving transfer opportunities, and enhancing workforce development programs. Under his leadership, the district also saw improvements in facilities and infrastructure, with investments made in technology and student support services.

Rodriguez’s tenure was not without its challenges, however. The district faced financial difficulties, faculty and student protests, and a growing achievement gap among its diverse student population. Despite these obstacles, Rodriguez remained committed to his vision of providing high-quality education to all students and creating a more equitable and inclusive learning environment.

In a statement announcing his departure, Rodriguez expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as chancellor and reflected on the progress that had been made during his time in office. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnerships in achieving the district’s goals and emphasized the need for continued dedication to student success.

As the search for a new chancellor begins, the LACCD Board of Trustees will be tasked with finding a qualified and experienced leader to continue the work that Rodriguez started. The new chancellor will inherit a district facing numerous challenges, including financial constraints, academic disparities, and the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite these challenges, the LACCD remains committed to its mission of providing affordable and accessible education to all residents of Los Angeles. With the support of the community, faculty, and staff, the district will continue to strive towards its goal of empowering students to achieve their educational and career aspirations.

As Chancellor Rodriguez prepares to step down this fall, his legacy of dedication to students and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly be remembered by all those who have been impacted by his leadership. The LACCD will undoubtedly benefit from the foundation he has laid for years to come, as it continues its mission of transforming lives through education.
