Gilbert Rogers, a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is stepping into his new role at a prestigious company. We sat down with him to learn more about his experience and what it’s like adjusting to life in the professional world.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your new job and what you’ll be doing?
A: I was fortunate enough to land a position at a tech company as a software engineer. I’ll be working on developing new products and improving existing ones. It’s a challenging but exciting role that I’m really looking forward to.
Q: How has the transition from student to employee been for you?
A: It’s definitely been a big adjustment. As a student, I was used to having a lot of freedom and flexibility in my schedule. Now, I have set hours and deadlines to meet. However, I’m enjoying the structure and the opportunity to put my skills to use in a real-world setting.
Q: How has your education at UNC Chapel Hill prepared you for your new job?
A: UNC Chapel Hill has a fantastic computer science program that gave me a solid foundation in programming and problem-solving. The critical thinking skills and technical knowledge I gained during my time there have been invaluable in my new role.
Q: What advice do you have for recent graduates who are about to enter the workforce?
A: My advice would be to stay open-minded and eager to learn. The transition from school to work can be challenging, but it’s also a great opportunity to grow and develop new skills. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek out guidance from more experienced colleagues.
Q: What are you most excited about in this new chapter of your life?
A: I’m most excited about the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and make a real impact in the industry. I can’t wait to see how my work contributes to the company’s success and to continue to develop my skills as a software engineer.
